Oprah Responds To Rumours She's Planning To Run For President

And while that marked a 5 percent decline in total deliveries when compared to last year's 20 million viewers and a 10 percent drop-off versus the 7.19 million members of NBC's target demo who tuned in to the 2017 show, Sunday night's gala now stands as the broadcast TV season's most-watched, highest-rated non-sports program.

Known for celebrating the best in film and television, this year's Golden Globe Awards was dominated by one topic: sexual harassment against women. It was marked by scathing jokes about sexual misconduct scandals in the entertainment industry and beyond, and by passionate speeches about female empowerment. With receiving the award Oprah delivered one of the night's most memorable speeches. "To say how we experience shame, how we love and how we rage, how we fail, how we retreat, persevere and how we overcome", she continued. "But it was really great to be in this room and to be part of a tectonic shift in our industry power structure".

Several winners used their acceptance speeches to address the hot-button issue.

Oprah Winfrey holds the 2018 Golden Globe Cecil B. DeMille Award in the press room during the 75th annual Golden Globe Awards ceremony at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California. "Their time is up!" E!'s Catt Sadler recently departed after she said she learned she was making about half the pay of her male counterpart, Jason Kennedy. It gave us more freedom. "It was a culture of silence and that was normalized". Let's keep that conversation alive.

"Handmaid's Tale" actress Elisabeth Moss, who won in the Best Actress in a TV Drama category, quoted the author of the book that inspired the apocalyptic Hulu series.

For Margaret Atwood and all of the women who came before her and after her, who were courageous enough to speak out against intolerance and injustice and fight for equality and freedom, we no longer live in the blank white spaces at the edge of print. On Jan. 1, the National Women's Law Center announced the creation of the Time's Up Movement, a legal defense fund to raise money for women and men to fight sexual harassment.

As for what humbles her, the media mogul referred to her award before explaining that even she was surprised to receive the coveted honor.

Trump's job approval rating sat at just 32 per cent in December, according to an Associated Press-NORC poll. She acknowledged the awe-inspiring power inherent to standing on that stage, describing how she felt at seeing Sidney Poitier accept such recognition so many years ago. "What I know for sure is that speaking your truth is the most powerful tool that we all have", Winfrey said, expressing her appreciation for the women who have come forward but also pointing out the voices of women whose "names we will never know".

Further denying that she would hit the campaign trail, Winfrey added, "That is not my thing".

Raised in Nashville, Milwaukee and MS, she was raped as a 14-year-old by an uncle and became pregnant, until she miscarried the baby. If so, it's been a long while. Most people would probably agree, she's a pretty good egg.

It was entirely in line with an evening that balanced the completely expected with a few moments that were refreshingly unpredictable, starting with the symbolic sartorial blackout for the Globes red carpet and ending with Natalie Portman's sucker punch to the nards in the wake of Winfrey's speech.

But I hope she doesn't run.

He won for the Cold War-era fantasy "The Shape of Water". What he was grateful for, Brown said, is that "I'm being seen for who I am and being appreciated for who I am, and it makes it that much more hard to dismiss me or dismiss anybody who looks like me".

The reactions on social media nearly as powerful as Oprah's speech.
