Police have conducted searched at several other properties connected to the 66-year-old man.

On Wednesday, lead investigator Det-Sgt.

"We do believe there are more". "We'll lay more charges as we get them".

"These are people who have fantasized about this for some time, who put considerable mental and physical energy into scouting and identifying locations, preparing for any contingency", says Arntfield, who is also a professor at Western University in London, Ont.

The suspect has appeared in court once already, on January 19, to face first-degree murder charges in connection with the deaths of two other men, Selim Esen and Andrew Kinsman.

McArthur has now been charged for killing three additional men: Majeed Kayhan, 58, Soroush Mahmudi, 50, and Dean Lisowick, 47.

Peter Sgromo told The Associated Press about a violent sexual encounter with McArthur, who he had known for ten years, last April after they met for drinks in Toronto's gay village.

This a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.

"That a serial killer went undetected for years, raises critical questions about vulnerabilities and the intersection of vulnerabilities that many members of our community experience - homophobia and transphobia combined with vulnerabilities of racism, poverty or homelessness". Idsinga said while he does not know exactly how many victims will ultimately be identified in the case, he expects the number will rise.

"The city of Toronto has never seen anything like this", Homicide Detective Hank Idsinga told The Globe and Mail. "I'd call it an unprecedented type of investigation", Idsinga said. After saying in December that there was no evidence to support such a theory, police on Monday described McArthur as an alleged serial killer.

"Most serial killers actually take time in order to convince themselves that this is who they are", says Yaksic. There are also plans to excavate a further two sites.

Over a dozen further planters have been seized from addresses across the city, with McArthur's landscaping clients not yet contacted by police to reach out.

McArthur is being held in custody until his next court date on February 14.

The Ministry of the Attorney General said McArthur's lawyer is Jeffery Couse.

Parker Liddle is a senior who lives directly across from 53 Mallory Cres. and who claims to have seen the accused at the Leaside property with a younger, slimmer man, who would help McArthur transfer gear to and from his rusted maroon Dodge Caravan.

"He was part of the neighbourhood", said Steven Gleason, who worked as a bartender in the Church and Wellesley area in 2013 and continues to work at a nightclub nearby.

A large army-style tent was set up in the backyard of the house, with a power generator running.

"He has been doing superficial landscaping, he cuts the grass, and rakes the leaves in the fall", Liddle said. "All of our pots around the house were suddenly filled with handsome flowers".

One of them, Kayhan, had been missing since 2012.

Kayhan, known to frequent the "Village" area around Church and Wellesley, was last seen October 14, 2012.

Kinsman was reported missing from the gay village in late June 2017.

The known victims are believed to have disappeared between 2012 and March of a year ago, authorities said. Mr. Mahmudi is believed to have died in mid-August, 2015.
