Larry Nassar to face another sentence, victims in return to court
The father of three girls who said they were abused by Larry Nassar lunged at the former gymnastics doctor during his sentencing hearing Friday morning.
A father whose three daughters were abused by disgraced USA gymnastics doctor Larry Nassar will escape punishment for attacking Nassar in the courtroom. He said hearing his daughters' words and watching Nassar shake his head while they were speaking led him to nearly attacking Nassar.
"I know it is hard, but I need to ask all of you to try and not react in any physical way", Cunningham said.
Three security guards and a man sitting next to Nassar immediately jumped between the two and the father is tackled to the ground. "I want that son of a b****!"
"A violent outburst from Larry Nassar, accused of sexually abusing 265 women and girls", Ruhle said. (Reuters/Rebecca Cook) An Eaton County Sheriff protects Larry Nassar, (wearing orange) during victim statements of his sentencing in the Eaton County Circuit Court in Charlotte, Mich. on February 2. First, Margrave looked at Nassar and called him 'a son of a b--.' The judge reprimanded him for swearing. "This is letting him have the power over us", Assistant Attorney General Angela Povilaitis said to survivors and family members as Margraves was escorted out.
After listening to his daughters' emotional recount of Nassar's abuse, Randall Margraves addressed the court and asked the judge for a few minutes alone with the "demon". The judge accepted his apology and did not choose to issue fines or jail time.
Last week, more than 150 accusers delivered their statements, including Olympic gymnasts Aly Raisman and, having her statement read aloud to Nassar, McKayla Maroney. When the judge denied him the opportunity, he sprinted towards the guilty medic. The doctor faces up to 175 years in prison for abuse and child pornography charges.
