Top-ranked Wisconsin women's hockey team falls 1-0 at Ohio State

One source told cleveland.com it could be three to five games (including the IL game), but no official word has been given on the timetable.

The Lions won four of five bouts in the second half, highlighted by sophomore Anthony Cassar (Rocky Hill, N.J.) taking care of No. 1 Kollin Moore at 197.

Looking for its first road win against a ranked opponent in almost four years, IL got off to a strong start against No. 17 Ohio State on Sunday. "I thought that Cayla [McMorris] made it her mission that we were not going to back down anymore", Wisconsin head coach Jonathan Tsipis said.

With a crowd that had filled the stands almost 30 minutes ahead of the start of the meet teeming with anticipation, Boise State transfer Carson Kuhn finally made his debut for Penn State.

In Columbus, Ohio, Keita Bates-Diop scored a career-high 35 points and had 13 rebounds and Ohio State held off IL.

The Buckeyes picked up a tossup win at 141, where No. 11 Joey McKenna decisioned No. 6 Nick Lee, 7-6, on the strength of 1:32 in riding time advantage.

No. 1 Zain Retherford put Penn State on the board with a 19-4 technical fall over No. 14 Te'Shan Campbell at 149. Lambdin and David Keefer set up Zach Osburn at the point where he let a wrister go that got through traffic and past Sean Romeo to make it 3-2. After a Wisconsin basket, Mavunga had a 3-point play to start a 9-1 run for a 12-point lead.

The 174-pound bout was a rematch of last year's NCAA final between Penn State's Mark Hall and Bo Jordan of the Buckeyes.

Penn State avoided further bonus next at 133.

No. 1 Bo Nickal overpowered No. 2 Myles Martin in the 184-pound bout, another Big Ten and NCAA Final rematch, with a 10-2 major decision. The score was tied 2-2 heading into the third period, when Cassar escaped and took down Moore.

Penn State (12-0) got a couple of huge marquee victories in the heavier weights. The Nittany Lion battled Snyder tough but lost a close 15-10 decision.

In the end, Penn State outlasted Ohio State for the victory, 19-18, and the outcome secured the Nittany Lions an outright claim to the Big Ten regular-season championship.

Williams will be a serious loss for a Buckeyes team looking to stay in Big Ten title contention.

Penn State competed without national champ Jason Nolf (knee) and the Lions also did not have Matt McCutcheon available at 197. After joining Penn State's roster as a mid-semester graduate transfer in January, Carson Kuhn made his debut in front of a season-high 6,699 fans in Rec Hall.

But perhaps the biggest question surrounding the matchup between the Nittany Lions and the Buckeyes was which team would leave Rec Hall as the number one wrestling team in the nation.

The excitement that built up leading up to this showdown between the No. 1 and No. 2 dual teams in the country has been compared to rivalry matches between Iowa and Iowa State and Iowa and Oklahoma State in the 1980s and '90s.
