“She Wanted To Have It”: Quentin Tarantino Once Defended Roman Polanski's Rape Of A 13-Year-Old

Quentin Tarantino has been criticised for defending disgraced director Roman Polanski in a resurfaced clip

Audio of Quentin Tarantino defending Roman Polanski by saying his 13-year-old rape victim "wanted to have it" has resurfaced online.

In the interview, Tarantino defended filmmaker Roman Polanski, who in 1977 pleaded guilty to unlawful sex with a minor - Samantha Gailey, who was 13 years old at the time.

But Thurman took to her Instagram to say that she did not blame Tarantino for the handling of a violent auto crash she experienced on the set of Kill Bill. "To me, when you use the word "rape" alright you're talking about violent, throwing them down. You can't throw the word rape around, is like throwing the word racist around... it just doesn't apply to everything that people use it for".

"The Howard Stern Show" co-host Robin Quivers interrupted him, saying that the sex was not consensual.

"No, that was not the case at all".

Tarantino said they filmed the choking scene twice and that Kruger allowed a third take because "she trusted" him so much.

Quivers: ...giving her booze and pills...

He said that he had tested the course, a one-lane strip of road in Mexico, before encouraging Ms. Thurman to perform the stunt, but then he chose to change the direction in which she would drive. The Times published the raw footage which shows Thurman crashing, holding her head and then being helped out of the auto. "I would never react to her this way".

Thurman spoke out again Monday on Instagram, reposting the crash video and acknowledging that Tarantino "was deeply regretful and remains remorseful about this sorry event, and gave me the footage years later so I could expose it and let it see the light of day".

In her account of events, Thurman told Maureen Dowd of The New York Times that the vehicle had undergone alterations and, according to a teamster, was not necessarily working well. Tarantino reportedly wanted Thurman to drive between 35 to 40 miles per hour so that the wind would blow back her hair.

The director also responded to suggestions that he personally performed some of the more controversial and violent actions in his films, including spitting on Thurman's face and choking her with a chain, by explaining that it was a matter of "taking responsibility" for tricky shots.

His role in the Dowd piece: Tarantino says he and Thurman had talked extensively about her plans to speak with Dowd, and that the plan was for him to also talk to Dowd and verify Thurman's claims.

Tarantino was previously critised after admitting he failed to act despite having knowledge about the sexual abuse and assault allegations against Harvey Weinstein, his longtime collaborator. Thurman told Dowd she'd severely injured her neck and knees and suffered a concussion due to the crash. "I didn't go barging into Uma's trailer, screaming at her to get into the auto", the director said. "That's not quite the same thing", Tarantino said.

"That was an issue of me asking the actress, can we do this to get a realistic effect", he said. The article largely focused on Thurman's sexual assault allegations against Harvey Weinstein, but she also discussed her experience with Tarantino filming "Kill Bill", which was produced by Weinstein's studio.
