Sea of Thieves - Sea of Thieves for Windows 10 - Let's Talk About Specs
Sea of Thieves is an upcoming action-adventure cooperative multiplayer game developed by Rare and published by Microsoft Studios.
Mike Chapman, the design director, was pretty categorical while talking with PC Gamer. "What we will say is there will never be loot crates in Sea of Thieves".
The assertion doesn't carry over into microtransactions, sadly. "The game is perfectly playable at 540p, and one of the advantages of Xbox Play Anywhere is that if you own an Xbox One AND a low-spec laptop you can still take full advantage of it, and we absolutely encourage it!"
Rare has announced that Sea of Thieves will not feature any loot boxes at all.
The specs in question range from as low as 540p/30fps to as high as 4K/60fps, making the game a very flexible option for players that might have older or lower end machines, to players looking to max out the settings as possible. How it'll fare once it actually arrives next month is anyone's guess, but in the meantime I'm enjoying the trickle of information every so often that helps us figure out what the final version will be like. And so at that point we're still going to have the majority of the team working on this game and a lot of people adding content. You will always know what you're buying if you decide to spend real money in Sea of Thieves.
When you initially make your character in Sea of Thieves, you will be presented with a carousel of eight, completely randomly generated pirates, pulling from a potential pool of millions.
In other words, there will not be any loot boxes. The official launch date for the new pirate title has been set for the 20 of March and will be available for Xbox One and Microsoft Windows. Additionally, Rare will let you reroll the pirate generator carousel an infinite number of times until you find the pirate that's right for you.
"It'll come back. It'll be fine!" That goes for our digital business. "That's a hard and fast principal to us".
"But what we're saying as a Rare developer is, we're going to turn on crossplay". "There will be a chance to acquire some of this stuff in the game, by rewards and chance, but if you want to guarantee a specific pet then you have to buy".
