Apple to Take on Bose and Sony's Noise Cancelling Wireless Headphones This Year [Report]

Sony's noise-canceling wireless headphones are on sale for 15% off at Amazon

Furthermore, the report claims that Apple has been working on the headphones for at least a year, and that the development has been hampered with undisclosed issues which could push the release date into 2019 (the company now plans to launch them at the end of 2018). Interestingly, Apple is looking to market the headphones under its own brand, capitalizing on the success of the Airpods, but at the same time competing with products from its Beats subsidiary.

Apple's AirPods earphones have been a surprise hit.

Work on this product has been on-and-off over the past year, according to the report, with the company going through multiple redesigns of the product. It's possible Apple will redesign the headphones again before launch, or scrap the project altogether, they warned, asking not to be identified discussing private development work. Apple acquired Beats three years ago for $3.2 billion-no small sum, obviously. Just like the sale that Amazon is now running on a pair of Sony noise-canceling wireless headphones, which are discounted by exactly $52. But, like in previous years, Apple might miss the deadline. There are also concerns that this new product could end up cannibalizing sales from the Beats brand that's also owned by Apple.

Apple previously discarded the Beats Music streaming name when it launched Apple Music in 2015.

Although Beats makes earbuds, the AirPods isn't believed to have substantially eaten into the sales of any Beats headphones.

Pricing will be key for the new Apple headphones. Apple hasn't yet decided on a price, but considering that high-end alternatives can cost a few hundred dollars, its new headphones likely won't be cheap. AirPods have been tricky to assemble and use unusual design tricks, likely making them expensive to produce.
