Lottery jackpots total more than half a billion dollars this weekend

Michigan Lottery: Winning $50000 Powerball ticket sold in Detroit remains unclaimed

The odds of winning both jackpots are one in 75 quadrillion - that's 15 zeros - according to data scientists at Allstate. Meanwhile, Saturday's Powerball jackpot drawing is even bigger at an estimated $321 million.

The jackpot has climbed in the seven weeks since a New Hampshire woman won a $559.7 million jackpot on January 6.

Thursday, March 1, 2018 is the last day the prize can be claimed. The odds of winning the jackpot with a $2 ticket are 1 in 30,821,472.

The prize amount has grown steadily since the January 6 Powerball drawing.

The odds of buying a $1 million ticket are one in 12 million, which means that chances of winning the jackpot are lower.

Time and again, vendors said the weather was keeping lottery ticket sales down, but they expected an upsurge in last minute Powerball purchases on Saturday. Nevertheless, there are states which tend to go a little overboard with their love of lotteries more than other states. The Pennsylvania Lottery has an office at 49 S. Washington St., Wilkes-Barre.

The average American spends about $200 a year on lottery tickets, though residents of some states spend far more. Meanwhile, people living in DE or NY, are likely to spend about $400 a year, or $33 per month over lottery tickets.

There is a one-time cash option of $189 million.
