Florida legislature votes to stay on year-round Daylight Saving Time

No fair: Florida is trying to opt out of Daylight Saving Time clock changes

Manitobans will be putting their clocks ahead one hour this weekend with daylight saving time set to begin in the province.

Daylight Saving Time will end again on Sunday, November 4, 2018.

Standard Time will soon give way to Daylight Saving Time.

A couple of Texas lawmakers a year ago proposed doing away with the practice once and for all but were unable to get their plan approved by the full state Legislature. Scott said he will consider the proposal. Congress would need to approve the change because right now DST is federal law. IN actually outlawed DST in 1949 and only began observing it in 2006.

In recent years, several states in New England - Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Rhode Island - have created commissions or introduced proposals to that end.

But do you know the one thing almost all Florida lawmakers agree on?

The scenario is probably why some states like Florida may have had enough with this bouncing around in time. Greg Steube, the bill's sponsor, told the Tampa Bay Times.

Jacoby expects that the permanent Daylight Saving Times will stretch out his dinner hour and lead to him being able to accommodate more customers during the evening rush.

Daylight saving time was put into affect in the 1918 during World War I as well, using it in an effort to preserve coal.

The idea of changing clocks dates well before 1942 when the United States started it. Benjamin Franklin is often given the honor of "inventing" it, but he only had the idea of changing sleep schedules...not moving clocks. IN did not start observing daylight savings time until 2006. Because of its relative proximity to the equator, daylight savings time offers no essential advantage to the state, which is on Hawaii-Aleutian time.

Now some advocates want to ditch DST, essentially in favor of year-round "summer time".

"Many people they go to bed at usual time and they lose an hour of sleep and many different physiological systems are affected by that loss of sleep and the shift of circadian rhythm", he explained.
