BREAKING NEWS - Rand Paul's attacker pleads GUILTY to assault: Neighbor faces jail for tackling the Senator in his front yard and breaking six of his ribs in dispute over his lawn

The man who attacked Kentucky's U.S. Senator Rand Paul past year has pleaded guilty to assaulting a member of Congress.

Boucher's final sentence is tentatively scheduled for June 15.

Federal prosecutors will seek a 21-month prison sentence for Boucher.

Boucher was charged after attacking the Paul in November 2017 at his Bowling Green home while the senator was mowing his lawn. Bates, 76, who said he confused his stun gun with his handgun, was released in October after serving less than half of his four-year sentence for second-degree manslaughter.

The two had an ongoing dispute over yard maintenance for a few months.

Boucher also agreed to pay restitution to Paul, according to media reports.

"This has been profoundly embarrassing for him, he's very much looking forward to moving on and this is the next step in achieving that", Baker said of his client Friday.

Rene Boucher, a neighbor of Sen.

The two have always been next-door neighbors in their subdivision, but have disagreed over lawn maintenance.

Court documents say Boucher saw Paul stacking more brush and 'had enough'. Instead, it had to do with a property dispute, it said.

That includes Boucher's daily walks with his dog.

In arguing for no prison time, Baker said, he'll note that Boucher's record had consisted of a speeding ticket before the attack.
