Mario invades Google Maps to help you avoid bananas while driving
Instead of the regular icon representing you on Google Maps, users now have the option of changing it where it will become Mario in his famous go-kart instead. Mario comes in you Google Maps as a partnership between Google and Nintendo for Mario Day on March 10.
Do us a favour: Go to your Google Maps and give a little tap to the yellow question mark.
Mario with his Kart will hold a position in Google Maps' arrow, which is used to show the location where the user is heading.
As always, respect the rules of the road.
According to Google, "We know a true Mario fan when we see one".
Starting March 9 and for the next week, Mario and his signature red racer are replacing the standard blue arrow in the directions function of the mobile app.
The Google MapsMarioupdate went live on Friday across the global and will be available for a week.
"Mario Mode" will be available for a week, according to Nintendo. Maps were transformed into a Ms. PacMan game for April Fool's Day 2017 and, in 2015, figures from "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" appeared in Google Maps.
Why Mario Day? Because today, March 10th, can also be written as MAR10, you see, which hopefully speaks for itself.
Just like old video games, the Mario feature also has a hidden easter egg. "If you press the "?" block repeatedly a hundred times you will hear the sound for "1-UP" as you do in Mario games.
"Just do not forget to practise safe driving on the road", Google Maps'official blog says.
In the meantime, Google Maps and Mario will be here all week in celebration of Mario Kart, with the plumber fist-pumping his way through traffic.
