The Pentagon has begun preparing for President Trump's requested military parade in Washington, D.C., but preliminary plans suggest it won't involve any tanks like the Bastille Day celebration that inspired it.

The event, which will take place November 11, will include troops from different branches, highlight the growing role of women in the armed forces and have a "heavy air component" of modern and historic war planes, the memo says.

The memo says only aircraft and "wheeled vehicles" will be used - no tanks - to "minimize damage to local infrastructure".

In other words, heavy tanks could tear up the streets of DC and will thus not be allowed to rumble past the president on his reviewing stand.

While the memo does not specify which aircraft will make up the aviation element, the instruction to seek out older aircraft may be a cost-mitigating measure.

Northern Command, which oversees USA troops in North America, will execute the parade. A few weeks later, news broke that the event would be held on Veteran's Day.

The parade route will reportedly go from the White House to the Capitol.

"We're all aware in this country of the President's affection and respect for the military", Defense Secretary Jim Mattis said February 7".

The memo also said the parade will "highlight the evolution of women veterans from separate formations in World War II to today's integrated formations".

Despite the increase, the Trump administration in late 2017 tried to slash funding for homeless vets, until advocates noticed and stirred up enough support to get the decision reversed. We've been putting together some options.

Female veterans will be highlighted, and marchers representing previous wars will wear period uniforms, including historical dress from the Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps. A week later Mick Mulvaney, the White House budget director, estimated that the sort of public display that Trump had called for could cost between US$10 million (S$13 million) and $30 million.
