Spring is still sleeping; Snow, wind, and cold make another appearance

Weather Authority: Calmer and cooler conditions on Wednesday

"High pressure and tranquil conditions move back overhead Sunday with highs in the 40s to around 50, [but] the next system will already be moving eastward through the Midwest Sunday night", meteorologists wrote on the weather service website's forecast discussion.

Tomorrow: Temperatures will be 10 degrees warmer than they were today with a small chance of a rain shower in the afternoon. Most of us in the low to mid 40's this morning. It may seem like a lost cause after this morning's snow, but still protect your spring plants and crops tonight. The showers stay steady into Saturday evening and, as temperatures dip into the 30s, some rain could turn to snow, especially for communities north of Raleigh, Gardner said.

Today, highs will heat close to 80 degrees with a south wind, about 5 to 10 miles per hour. The biggest threat looks to be strong winds.

The rest of next week looks to be calm and warmer with highs shy of 40 degrees. The chance of rain showers lessens Sunday, but our skies will remain cloudy. We can expect high winds, heavy rain, some hail and isolated tornadoes. But a better looking afternoon with mainly sunny skies and temperatures around 60°.

In Wellington and temperatures during the day will only peak at 13 degrees both Tuesday and Wednesday with areas of rain and cold windy southerlies.
