Trump pledges swift United States response to Syria chemical attack

Russian President Vladimir Putin talks with President Donald

Pressed Monday on whether those plans still stand, Trump simply told reporters: "We're gonna make a decision on all of that, in particular Syria, we'll be making that decision very quickly, probably by the end of today".

Trump further asserted that had President Barack Obama launched a campaign against the Syrian regime in August 2012-when Damascus launched an earlier chemical attack against Syrian rebels-the current situation in Syria would have been averted.

President Donald Trump said the alleged chemical attack in Syria over the weekend was "atrocious" and "horrible". "And if he does it's going to be very tough, very tough". Everybody is going to pay a price, he will everybody will. "He will. Everybody will".

US President Donald Trump has promised a "forceful" response to the alleged chemical attack in Syria, as Western leaders consider what action to take. Those at the meeting included Defense Secretary Jim Mattis and the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Gen. Joseph Dunford.

After capturing most of Ghouta, Syria and Russian Federation secured two negotiated withdrawals last month that saw 46 000 rebels and civilians evacuate.

That attack prompted the U.S. to launch several dozen Tomahawk cruise missiles at a Syrian air base.

Russia's claim came hours after the Pentagon denied Syrian media reports that the US conducted the airstrikes in Syria.

A poster of Syrian President Bashar al Assad is seen as a woman watches while buses carrying freed hostages and rebels who were evacuated from the rebel-held city of Douma arrive at Wafideen camp in Damascus, Syria April 8, 2018. "It was an atrocious attack, it was awful". And Israel has said - and we are clear on this - that Israel will not accept an Iranian military presence in Syria, and will not accept (Iran's) creeping presence in Syria.

"And when I will not say, because I don't like talking about timing".

The French representative at the UN Security Council said poison gas had deliberately been used as it could seep down to the basements.

Asked if the United Kingdom would join any US-led military action in Syria, Mrs May said during a visit to Sweden: "What we are now doing is working urgently with our allies to assess what has happened here". Monday was the first day on the job for Bolton, who has previously advocated military action against Syria.

The Trump administration has also asked the United Nations Security Council to authorize an independent inquiry into the attack.

The French ambassador to the United Nations told an emergency meeting of the Security Council on Monday that the victims' symptoms pointed to the use of "a powerful neurotoxic agent, combined with chlorine to enhance its lethal effect".

"The President wants to bring our troops home after we complete the mission to eradicate ISIS in Syria". He notes the president likely wouldn't have to get approval for a strike on Syria.

Acting Secretary of State John Sullivan spoke by phone Monday with British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson. The Syrian government and its Russian backers deny the allegations, and have questioned whether a chemical weapons attack took place.

Damascus has denied the allegations, and Russian Federation has said there is no evidence of a chemical attack.

As U.S. officials consider whether and how to respond, they are looking at what type of chemical agent might have been used.

They were supposed to discuss a US -drafted resolution on an global investigative mechanism for chemical weapons use in Syria.
