Scotland shooter David McMath won the gold medal in the men's double trap to help the nation surpass their record tally of 29 medals at an overseas Commonwealth Games.

A third of Cameroon's athletes attending the Commonwealth Games in Australia have gone missing, the team said in a statement Wednesday.

The first three left on April 8, before two more followed the next day. The Cameroon team has reported her missing.

The Australian Associated Press quoted Cameroon team manager Victor Agbor Nso as saying weightlifter Olivier Matam Matam and boxers Christian Ndzie Tsoye and Simplice Fotsala had been due to compete Tuesday but could not be found.

In the last fight of the night, Montreal's Harley-David O'Reilly won by walkover over Cameroon's Ulrich Rodrigue Yombo in the men's 81-kilogram quarterfinal.

Team attache Simon Molombe said he did not expect them to return.

"I have been training so hard. the hardest thing for any athlete is coping with an injury, especially when it means they can't compete in what they have been working towards", Daley said.

New Zealand will now face a blockbuster encounter against Australia - a repeat of all five previous Commonwealth Games finals.

"I don't think they will be back", Cameroon's Molombe told CNN Sport, confirming their disappearance had been reported to Australian police.

He also said that all eight athletes prepared in Warwick in central Queensland prior to the Games, but only six of them took part in their respective competitions, while two left without competing.

Although the Australian Border Force has been informed, the athletes are not yet in breach of their visa conditions.

"Until it becomes a real issue in terms of visas and so forth we would obviously need to take that very seriously but right now it's a safety and welfare issue for those athletes from a Team Cameroon perspective".

Cameroon officials told 7 News that most of the athletes disappeared in the middle of the night, some even leaving their belongings behind at the athlete's village.

Cameroon's remaining two weightlifters, along with the country's basketball team, were already heading home, the team added.

But this is not the first time athletes have disappeared during major sporting events, as 25 competitors went missing in the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, while 26 disappeared during the 2002 Games in Manchester.
