Loud Blasts Heard in Riyadh as Saudi Arabia Intercepts Missile

Yemen rebel missiles, drones shot down over Saudi

Yemen-based Al-Masirah TV gives another version, saying that the missile launched by the Yemen Houthis targeted the Saudi Defense Ministry in the capital. In a statement, the Saudi-led coalition fighting the Houthis in Yemen said it downed a drone targeting an airport in the southwestern province of Abha and another in Jazan.

The Saudi capital has been the target of the Yemeni Houthis' missiles for some time now.

He said Saudi forces also intercepted two missiles in the southern Jizan and Najran provinces close to the border with Yemen.

Last month, Saudi defences intercepted seven ballistic missiles fired at Riyadh and other cities by the Houthis, the biggest such barrage since the war began in March 2015.

One of the drones was targeting the Abha worldwide airport in Asir province, which led to a temporary suspension of air traffic, and a second was approaching a "civilian object" in Jizan province, he said.

"The air force announced the execution of air strikes with the Qasef-1 aircraft on Aramco in Jizan (province)", the channel said on its Twitter account, referring to a drone the Houthis unveiled past year.

They have frequently claimed attacks, including on Aramco facilities, that Saudi Arabia and its main ally the United Arab Emirates have either said did not happen or were intercepted.

Primarily based on a United Nations report, larger than 9,245 people have been killed in Yemen since March 2015, larger than half of which had been civilians.
