New Jersey Gov. Murphy Declares April 14th 'Bon Jovi Day'

Howard Stern is on his way to Cleveland

The announcement was made on Friday night during a private event at the the historic 925 Building.

Led by Sayreville native Jon Bon Jovi, the band released its first album in 1984, but were regulars on the New Jersey bar circuit for years before that - sometimes when the singer was too young to legally drink at those bars. The new song offered the band an opportunity to present a unified front: Sambora, playing the track live for the first time, shared a microphone with Jon Bon Jovi.

Other VIP guests included sports icons Robert Kraft, Jerry Jones, Bill Belichick, and Charlie Weiss; music executives Irving Azoff, Island Records head David Massey, CAA's Rob Light, Paul Korzilius, and longtime PR man Ken Sunshine; along with close personal friends Michael Feldman and wife Savannah Guthrie.

Both Sambora and Such rocked out with the current lineup of Bon Jovi for the group's full performance. Saturday was also declared Bon Jovi day in New Jersey.

Howard Stern did the honors for the band, with one of the night's more entertaining speeches. It's about time...." to the tune of "Wanted! The group was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland.

"They said I had three minutes, I said, 'No, I don't.' I'm going to take the time necessary to say what I got to say", Waymon said.

Another English band, Dire Straits, was inducted at the event, but it was without its leader Mark Knopfler, or his brother David Knopfler.

The radio jock also went on to compare the band's staggering sales marks to assorted human tragedies, adding, "Let me give you an idea of what the number 130 million means, and it means a lot".

Simone, who died in 2003, was welcomed into the Rock Hall in a groundbreaking way from performers who she has deeply inspired, from Lauryn Hill and Andra Day to Mary J. Blige.

The King of All Media, who labored all week on his speech inducting Bon Jovi into the Rock Hall, was his usual unflinching, no-filter self. But while he was excited about the Rock Hall honors, Ocasek downplayed the chance for a future Cars album without Benjamin Orr.

After an "In memoriam" montage of those who passed in the previous year, Heart's Anne Wilson and Alice in Chains' Jerry Cantrell delivered a tribute to Chris Cornell.

The ceremony ended with legendary rock band Moody Blues' induction and performance. Alabama Shakes frontwoman Brittany Howard and guitarist Felicia Collins (who plays guitar in the Marie & Rosetta stage show) performed in honour of another 2018 inductee, Sister Rosetta Tharpe.

"It's quite odd to be here without him", Ocasek said.
