Jeremy Corbyn: UK of 'waiting for instructions' from Trump on Syria

"I think parliament should have a say in this, and the prime minister could quite easily have done that ..."

"I think what we need in this country is something more robust like a War Powers Act so governments do get held to account by parliament for what they do in our name".

Asked by CNN on Sunday why parliament wasn't asked for its approval for Syria attacks, British Foreign Minister Boris Johnson says our main concern was the effectiveness and speed of the operation in Syria.

The US, UK and France hailed their missile strikes in the early hours of yesterday morning as having successfully degraded the capability of Assad to deploy chemical weapons.

Israel's Labour party said on April 10 it had suspended relations with British Labour party leader Jeremy Corbyn, accusing him of sanctioning anti-Semitism and showing hatred towards Israeli policies.

"This legally questionable action risks escalating further, as U.S. defence secretary James Mattis has admitted, an already devastating conflict and therefore makes real accountability for war crimes and use of chemical weapons less, not more likely". If May's government chose to intervene, she might not have enough votes in Parliament to support her, leading to speculation that she might try to bypass a Parliamentary vote.

"Corbyn seems more anxious about upsetting Russian Federation than about preventing use of chemical weapons".

"It is now vitally important that the OPCW inspectors, who are due to arrive in Douma today, are allowed to do their work and publish their report into their findings - and report to the United Nations Security Council", he said in his letter to the prime minister.

Some 75 people, including children, are said to have died when the Syrian regime used chlorine gas and another nerve agent in Douma last Saturday.

Corbyn challenged the justification and accused May of being chiefly concerned with following the lead of US President Donald Trump.

They also insist that the move would deprive Prime Ministers of the advantage of surprise in military interventions and that such legislation would open governments to a potential court challenge.

The Syrian regime of Bashar al-Assad denies it used chemical weapons, although the British, US and French governments all say they have significant amounts of evidence indicating that it was indeed behind the attack.

Johnson criticised Corbyn for saying he did not believe there was "incontrovertible evidence" that the Russian state was involved in the Salisbury poisoning, despite being privy to government intelligence about the case. It says that three conditions have to be met to justify the intervention.

The second level of attack is to seek to prevent Syria attempting to use chemical weapons again by destroying the relevant facilities, the means of delivery and imposing a punishment.
