Ford set to take Mustang racing next year

Classic Ford Mustang
"There's been a lot of speculation and calls for Mustang to be on the track", said Ford Australia boss Graeme Whickman.
The Mustang has also been gaining traction in China and thanks to 7,125 local registrations, was the nation's best-selling sports vehicle also. "It could only be found on TV or the Internet, and now it rolls down streets from Beijing to São Paulo".
The Ford Mustang was introduced at the New York World's Fair on April 17th 1964 and the sporty little 2-door quickly became the most popular vehicle in the U.S. auto industry.
It will mark Ford's fourth Cup Series model in the so-called "modern era" that began in 1972, following the Thunderbird, Taurus and current model Fusion. Since 2011, the Mustang has won all but one of the seasons it raced under the colors of Team Penske in that competition.
It will be the first factory-endorsed Mustang to run in Australia's top-tier touring auto championship in 33 years. Considering the Mustang is an actual sports auto (unlike the aging Fusion sedan), this move makes sense-unless people actually buy Fusions after they see them being raced in NASCAR, which I doubt is the case.
There are no such issues with the ST, which has been sourced from Europe previously and will find a home here under the newly launched Ford Performance brand, along with the Focus ST and RS, Mustang and Ranger Raptor.
Both racing outfits are understood to have already undertaken exploratory mechanical and aerodynamic research on the Mustang, which will require significant body modifications to fit over the control Supercars platform. A public unveiling of the finished product will soon follow.
Ford doesn't offer detailed numbers, but the company has stated that the most popular engine option around the world is the 5.0-liter V8.
Legendary team owner Dick Johnson said the return of the Mustang will be the ideal way to signal Ford's factory rebirth in the sport. "The classic Mustang parts industry is a growing market, and we look forward to raising the bar for the industry and providing the most comprehensive catalog, as well as new heights of quality and customer satisfaction".
Ford will fully unveil the new Mustang after testing is completed and the design has been approved by NASCAR later this year.

The subscriber growth was also ahead of Wall Street consensus, which had Netflix only slightly beating its own forecast. The belief among analysts like Deutsche Bank's Brian Kraft is that Netflix has too much of a head start to lose now.
