'A Political Hit Job': Bongino Calls on Tester to Resign Over Ronny Jackson Criticism

Trump Says Democrat Should Quit Over VA Nomination Brouhaha

The president has taken aim at Tester in recent days after the Montana Democrat, who is up for reelection in a state Trump won, released a document that laid out allegations that Rear Adm. Ronny Jackson, Trump's VA secretary pick, drank on the job, overprescribed medication and fostered a hostile work environment as personal physician to the president.

The White House medical unit that Jackson ran successfully passed regular controlled substance audits, according to the records for the last three years.

On Sunday, two senior Trump administration officials told Politico that Sean Conely, a Navy officer who previously filled in for Jackson, would assume the position of the president's personal physician.

Jackson has denied the allegations against him, which have proved hard to verify or disprove.

Jackson, a former combat physician who faced criticism nearly immediately that he was not qualified to oversee VA, withdrew his nomination Thursday, after the office of Sen.

Jackson denied the claims, saying he wouldn't have been "selected, promoted and entrusted to serve in such a sensitive and important role" if they had any merit.

The Secret Service said in a statement last week that they had no record of the latter.

Some names being tossed around for the VA spot now that Dr. Ronny Jackson has withdrawn are: Ascension President and CEO Anthony Tersigni, Cleveland Clinic CEO Dr. Toby Cosgrove, Rep. Phil Roe (R-Tenn.), and former Rep. Jeff Miller (R-Fla.).

After Jackson withdrew on Thursday, Trump launched into an attack on the committee's ranking Democrat, Jon Tester, over his opposition to the nominee and called for the Montana Democrat to resign in a tweet Saturday morning.

"Rear Adm. Ronny Jackson is now on active duty, assigned to the White House as deputy assistant to the president".

"Tester started throwing out things that he's heard", Trump said at a rally in Washington Township, Michigan, on Saturday night.

Separately, the Secret Service said it has no evidence to support an allegation that its personnel intervened to prevent Jackson from disturbing former President Barack Obama during a foreign trip in 2015.

"The migrant "caravan" that is openly defying our border shows how weak & ineffective USA immigration laws are", Trump tweeted.

This led to a slew of reports that Jackson would also give up his role as White House doctor.

Jackson made a splash earlier this year when he held an extended news conference on Trump's physical in which he claimed the president was one pound under the weight that would be considered obese and said that Trump has "great genes".
