Letter Carriers' Annual Food Drive Set for May 12 Throughout Nation

Get Ready For Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive

Thank you to the community

The National Association of Letter Carriers will host the Stamp Out Hunger food drive May 12.

"It couldn't be easier - we simply ask people to bag healthy nonperishable food and place it by their mailbox, which our carriers will then pick up as they make the rounds on their daily route", Sixkiller said.

People can leave food in their mailboxes, or nearby in a bag, by 9 a.m. on May 12.

With 49 million people facing hunger every day in America, including almost 16 million children, this drive is one way you can help those in your own city or town who need help.

A year ago just over 4,000 pounds of food was collected by the local Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive. If you have any questions regarding this year's drive, you may call the Post Office or either of the food pantries.

Led by letter carriers represented by the National Association of Letter Carriers (AFL-CIO), with help from rural letter carriers, other postal employees and other volunteers, the drive has delivered more than one billion pounds of food the past 22 years. "We wouldn't be able to help our neighbors living with hunger without your support". Hunger affects about 50 million people around the country, including millions of children, senior citizens and veterans. We are asking the community to help us by donating canned food items through the Letter Carriers' Food Drive.

Locally, Reasors, Warehouse Market, Wal-Mart and area banks have contributed their resources in the past to assist the letter carriers on this annual drive.
