Since then, Mueller's office released the redacted version as part of a case against former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort.

The Post said Mueller had raised the possibility of a subpoena after Trump's lawyers said the president had no obligation to talk with federal investigators involved in the probe.

"The Russia Witch Hunt is rapidly losing credibility".

Sanders said, "I think the point he's making is how ridiculous it is that we're still having this conversation and the depths to which this research has gone on and investigation has been conducted and still produced nothing".

Mueller is a longtime Republican. Democrats on the committee issued a dissenting document.

"So disgraceful that the questions concerning the Russian Witch Hunt were "leaked" to the media".

Mueller could not have barred them from serving on the team based exclusively on their political contributions. And three of the attorneys are registered Democrats, according to reports in The Washington Post and PolitiFact.

However, Trump's legal team remain hesitant to have their client speak with Mueller. Federal regulations and Justice Department policy prohibit the consideration of political affiliation in hiring and other personnel actions involving career attorneys.

Dowd left the president's legal team about two weeks after the meeting.

It was U.S. District Judge T.S. Ellis who recently demanded access to the full memorandum, a stunning order from the judge who openly questioned whether Mueller had the authority to do as he wants.
