Until Twitter introduces the feature, those folks should be using apps such as Signal, which offers a pretty robust end-to-end encryption.

The feature isn't active inside a public Twitter release just yet, and Twitter won't confirm that it even exists, TechCrunch reports.

The encrypted Direct Message (DM) option was first spotted inside Twitter for APK that contains codes for unreleased features that companies are testing.

Twitter's direct messages feature enables users to send messages regardless of whether users follow each other on the platform. A spokesperson for the company has declined to comment.

The ability to send secret and safe messages could protect users from malicious parties with access to Twitter's network. There's a tab with filler text that reads "Education on what an encrypted conversation is". If you don't remember, back in 2016, Edward Snowden requested this feature to Twitter CEO.

Manchun Wong's screenshots show that Secret Conversations would allow users to exchange encrypted messages, view their own encryption key and that of their chat partner, and learn more about encryption.

Critics complain that Facebook's encrypted messaging feature is too hard to find and switch on, especially compared to it being WhatsApp's default setting. It's an especially important feature considering how often Twitter has been an important tool for sharing information about political and social crisis events. Launching more secure DMs could make Twitter the ultimate messaging platform.

Without encryption, messages are subject to being spied upon by governments, hackers or Twitter itself, TechCrunch noted. Whats app co-founder Jan Koum lately left WhatsApp, also " The Washington Post said the passing could have already been associated with "gaps in system" on face book's advertising focusing on and encryption strategies.
