Billionaire Elon Musk says that members of the public will be able to test a transportation system for scooting commuters underground on electric sleds.
The 2-mile (3.2 km) prototype tunnel under western Los Angeles should be operational in a few months, Musk said, adding that the company "will be offering free rides to the public". Musk has said that a ticket to ride the tunnel could cost less than a bus ticket.
"Super huge thanks to everyone that helped with this project", he continued.
Musk's proposed tunnel system would have stops at various locations spanning from Sherman Oaks to the Long Beach Airport.
And the ever-optimistic Musk has taken to Twitter to show the world that there's nothing boring at all about his subterranean castle in the air, er, ground below Southern California. The Boring company and the tunnel operation really only start around a year ago, and to already have something that the public can use is impressive.
In typical Musk fashion, he didn't release other details.
While Musk continues to deal with bottlenecks that are slowing production of the entry-level Tesla Model 3, he is still finding time to pursue his goal of fixing traffic congestion under LA.
In a tweet Thursday, Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, touted the tunnel and thanked supporters.
