Dern missed weight by weighing in at 123 pounds for the fight that was supposed to take place in the strawweight (116 pounds max.) division. Dern came in at close to 123 pounds, which is almost the limit for the next class above strawweight. "I don't want that to happen again".

According to MMA Junkie's Mike Bohn, Dern is the 11th UFC fighter to miss weight this year and her overage is the largest of the group, with all but one of the others coming in less than four pounds overweight. For me it's a mistake.

Dern said she is aware of the criticism and vowed to make changes to her diet.

Weight is a big concern for Dern as Brazilian needs to be committed to hitting the 115-pound mark or she needs to move up to flyweight.

"My manager said that the UFC would want me to move up in weight". The jujitsu grappler made weight for her first bout, a split-decision strawweight win over Ashley Yoder at UFC 222 in March, but she missed weight in two fights under the Legacy banner in October 2016 and March 2017.

After the fight, Dern addressed missing weight by talking to the media who attended this latest pay-per-view event for the promotion. "I believe that they won't", Dern said. "The UFC is investing in me, and I'm going to work with them to not ever have that happen again". The UFC, since the first day I got here, were trying to help me and I said I was going to be able to make weight and I didn't. "I can't lose that opportunity to get all this help from this organization that is so big and it's going to help me make weight".
